Our Values That Guide Every Action
Compassion at the Core
We approach every person and community with empathy and understanding. Whether providing relief to families facing poverty or supporting someone on their journey to recovery, we listen, care, and act with kindness. Our compassion drives everything we do, ensuring that no one is treated as just a statistic, but as a human being deserving of dignity and hope.
Integrity in Our Work
Trust and transparency are central to our mission. We are committed to using every donation, resource, and effort responsibly, with clear accountability and ethical practices. By maintaining integrity in all our programs and partnerships, we ensure that the communities we serve can rely on us to deliver real, lasting support.
Empowering Communities
We believe in creating sustainable impact by working hand-in-hand with local communities. From education and skills development to recovery programs and outreach initiatives, we aim to empower individuals to overcome challenges and build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities across the Western Cape.
What We're About
NRPD would like to work in collaboration with companies to assist with further women's, youth and adult skills development, education and sports development for children and adults in our local areas. We intend to do this by educating women, youth, adults and elderly in literacy, life and basic business skills.
Our Vision and Mission
Our mission is to systematically alleviate poverty across our seven partner communities by providing high-impact education and practical skills development. We envision a future where every resident, like the adults in our vocational programs, possesses the tools, training, and confidence to transition from a cycle of lack to a life of sustainable independence and dignity.
The National Rescue for Drugs and Poverty Foundation is dedicated to breaking the cycle of hardship across seven disadvantaged communities, each home to approximately 1,500 residents. Our core mission is to alleviate the systemic issues of poverty through a dual-focus strategy of comprehensive education and sustainable skills development. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term growth, we empower individuals to transition from crisis to independence, fostering a resilient community where every person has the opportunity to thrive.
Poverty Relief & Holistic Care
Our commitment to basic dignity begins with robust poverty relief initiatives, including weekly feeding programs and the establishment of community vegetable gardens directly within the settlements. These efforts are paired with Independent Living Plans designed to move individuals toward self-sufficiency. Our reach extends to the festive and cultural heart of the community, where we host large-scale functions for Christmas, Easter, Youth Day, and Women’s Day, providing thousands of children and elderly residents with "Christmas Box" presents and a sense of belonging.
Education & Youth Development
We believe that education is the ultimate equalizer. To support the next generation, we successfully operate six Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and provide computer literacy training to over 1,000 children and adults. Our educational outreach is bolstered by after-school assistance, Life Skills Programs, awareness clinics, and educational excursions that broaden the horizons of our youth beyond their immediate surroundings.
Skills Development & Recreation
To facilitate employment and personal growth, we offer a diverse array of vocational training, ranging from technical trades like bricklaying, plastering, and artisan skills to creative pursuits such as beadwork, sewing, and cooking. We also emphasize the importance of physical well-being and teamwork through sports clinics, swimming, surfing, and annual skills competitions, culminating in our signature Beach Fun Day for the local youth.
Amplifying Our Voice
As we continue to expand our footprint, we are seeking to share these stories of transformation with a wider audience. We aim to feature our projects across premier media platforms including Radio Good Hope, Heart 104.9, KFM, Cape Talk, and Radio Pulpit, as well as Cape TV and Lead SA. By highlighting our community’s progress in local newspapers and broadcasts, we hope to inspire further partnership and showcase the incredible resilience of the people we serve.

Many people in these areas have excellent business ideas but don't have the knowledge or confidence to start. The Business Skills Development Project aims to give local, unemployed people the chance to realise their dreams and start to develop their own businesses.
NRPD would like to launch a program, teaching adults to create a suitable income for their families.
The idea behind the program is to teach people basic business skills such as how to write a business plan and draw up a budget. We also mentor them to run a successful business. We aim to run this program every few months teaching many more people to open their own businesses in the community.
With only 26% of the community completing secondary school and an unemployment rate of over 40%, we would like to try and improve this figure by providing a skills centre for unemployed women, youth and adults teaching the basics of reading and writing (so they can write CVs and market themselves) to fundamental skills
The centre will also serve as a base for a variety of empowerment projects where we plan to promote entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency for the women, youth and adults in the community as the large majority of families here are single-parent, mother-run households.
We currently do small projects with the elderly in these areas but due to a lack of facilities we are unable to provide all the services they need. Our first step would be setting up a training centre and reading area for one-on-one tutoring in the centre. A centre such as this one will allow the promotion of self-esteem development amongst young women, adults and youths who are the main breadwinners in these communities. By ensuring that youth, adults and women are occupied in a healthy and stimulating manner through sport and other youth development initiatives.
Through education and life skills we can make a difference in the youth, women, adult and elderly's lives for generations to come. We believe that with the collaboration between your company and NRPD we can run a sustainable and beneficial program for our underprivileged communities. Together we are able to start changing lives and changing futures.
